Pastor Checkerz

Pastor Checkerz and his wife Nicole co-founded Renew Church – Baton Rouge as part of the Send Network in June 2017. After 9 months of praying, planning, and gathering a core team, they launched public worship services on March 4th, 2018 with 25 people. Checkerz and Nicole have been married since 1996 and have three adult children.

Just 19 months into this new church plant, while holding worship services in the gymnasium of Florida Blvd Baptist Church, Renew Church was presented with an opportunity to “adopt” Florida Blvd Baptist Church and make the current location our permanent church home. In October of 2019, the FBBC congregation voted to give the church property and assets to Renew Church and several FBBC members decided to remain and join the Renew Church family.

Prior to Renew Church, in 2009 Checkerz and Nicole left their career jobs in corporate America and relocated to New Orleans where Checkerz completed his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry at Leavell College at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He went on to complete some of his Master of Divinity degree, but is currently taking time off from school to focus on growing and strengthening Renew Church. Prior to planting Renew Church Checkerz served as Pastor of Celebration Church in Laplace, LA for 6 years where the church saw 247 people baptized while growing from 120 to almost 400 in average weekly attendance. In July 2017 Checkerz and Nicole were commissioned as missionaries and sent out to plant Renew Church in Baton Rouge, LA.

Nicole has a background in Administration, Leadership, and Finance having worked as a Private Client Manager/Small Business Specialist for Chase Bank for 8 years. Nicole resigned her role with Chase Bank in 2017 to help plant Renew Church. She serves on the Executive Team in an advisory capacity.
